The highlight is on Sunday 23rd and we are hoping for a fine day. Starting at 2.00pm there is an event organised by Cómoradh ’98 on the summit of Lacken Hill and everyone is invited to partake in the celebrations. The event will start at 2.00pm. The Wexford flag will be raised, and a ceremony will take place in honour of the Holy Year in 1950, and as a tribute to our ancestors in 1798. There will be a vintage machinery display to fit in with this year’s National Heritage Week theme. The day will also feature the Carrickbyrne Pike Mummers and Pikemen, an historical talk by Bernard Browne, music by the Carty Sisters and the Comas Céilí Band, champion Irish dancers, face-painting, Cathy Hayden - Basket Maker and much more. As part of Heritage Week, Comóradh ’98 have organised a photographic record to be taken of our senior citizens from the entire area, on the summit of historic Lacken Hill. We are asking families to encourage all those who are young at heart to attend on 23rd as this will be a fantastic record and a cherished memory in time to come.
Transport to the summit of the hill will be available for those who need it and refreshments will be served. More details on Lacken Hills Trails Facebook page and Twitter account |
